Today's Thoughts

From the Djembe Drum of KATAKE ARTHUR BROWN Proud Native of Paradise, SC Fort Mill High School Class of 1975 Is it just me, or are these NBA Playoffs really the best I've seen in recent memory?...What does "Katake" mean? When I decide that, I'll let you know...I had the wonderful opportunity to meet none other than Bern'Nadette Stanis at a poetry reading a few weeks ago! You might remember her as "Thelma Evans" from from "Good Times"...I bought a signed copy of her new collection of poems titled, "Relationships 101". It is HILARIOUS, A LAUGH OUT LOUD RIOT, and it gets DOWWWWNNNN and DIRTEEEE!...She looks GREAT, I refuse to believe she's really 55 years young...Yes, I'm still a batch-e-lor. I'm still in a state of pure delight and unbridled joy over our shiny new BLACK PRESIDENT, BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA II! I know that the Ancestors are Dancingup a storm. Sometimes I have to pinch myself, is this really happening?! When I wake up in the morning and realize that my country has elected a President who LOOKS LIKE ME, IT'S ALREADY A GREAT DAY. The 44th President of the United States Of America is THAT BLACK MAN ON THE WALL OF THE POST OFFICE!! It is indeed a great time to be a Black Man, The Greatest Time Ever! Our Day, Our Time, Our Change Has Come, just like Sam Cooke said it would! I have to wipe the tears from my eyes as the song is playing in my head: A Change is Gonna Come - Sam Cooke So tell me, where were you on Tuesday November 4, 2008, that historic Election Day that will live forever in Paradise and all other Black Communities? Where were you on that day that changed the World forever? I'll give you my Election Day story in my next blog!
