A special night out! Last night was indeed very special. For a brief moment, it seemed as if I was at the world's largest class reunion. Seeing classmates for the first time in over 36 years. Older people from the Paradise Community that I knew as a child. They all still have the same personalities and look very much the way they did back in the day. But with all the excitment for me in that regard the one thing that impressed me most was the togetherness of the Paradise Community.
When I first got back home, several years ago, I was told that the hardest thing to do is to get Black folks together on one accord. Up until now I believed it. But last night proved that theory wrong. Black People can come together as one and the George Fish School Monument project is doing it. This is a common thread between all of us...George Fish School. All I can say is I hope that President John Sanders and members of the George Fish School Committee realize the full magnitude of this project. Its HUGE. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. It won't end with the placement of the monument in August 2007. I am proud of them and the hard work and dedication that they have put forth. In his speech, President Sanders said one thing that really stuck in my mind. "Some people think about it- some people talk about it, but it's time to do something about it." That statement forced me to re-evaluate Ken Dixon and my commitment to this cause and to the community.
So what do you think?
