Black men still fighting for equality

Though the colored man is no longer subject to barter and sale, he is surrounded by an adverse settlement which fetters all his movements.

In his downward course he meets with no resistance, but his course upward is resented and resisted at every step of his progress.

If he comes in ignorance, rags and wretchedness he conforms to the popular belief of his character, and in that character he is welcome; but if he shall come as a gentleman, a scholar and a statesman, he is hailed as a contradiction to the national faith concerning his race, and his coming is resented as impudence.

In one case he may provoke contempt and derision, but in the other he is an affront to pride and provokes malice.

11/11/11 VETERANS DAY

Message from the Secretary of Veterans Affairs: Veterans Day 2011
November 10, 2011

Tomorrow, at the 11th hour, on the 11th day, of the 11th month of 2011, we will pause to honor America's Veterans and celebrate their contributions to our way of life. Few have given more to our Nation than the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces in peace and in war.

Generation after generation—from Bunker Hill and Bennington to Baghdad and Abbottabad—protected, defended, and preserved the principles and ideals that define our democracy. Across that remarkable sweep of history, today's America was shaped at Lexington and Concord, Antietam and Gettysburg, in the skies over Midway, on the beaches of Normandy, in winter's grip at Chosin Reservoir, in the heat of Ia Drang Valley, from the Persian Gulf into Afghanistan and Iraq by those who wore our Nation's uniforms. Over twenty-two million living Veterans today embody our exceptional character and values as a people—each a line in our Nation's history, but together many chapters towards today's future.

Greetings, Blessings and Respect to All! I"m going to have to postpone the ancestral celebration for my mother, Lela Brown. I wanted to do it this Monday, June 1, which is her 75th Earth Day. Because of opportunities that have come up - when youre doing music for a living, you can't turn down gigs - and some details that have not been worked out, I'll have to do it later in the month. So, I'll keep you posted, and I will present a special article about Mrs. Brown here on Monday. Keep an eye out for it! Winter/Spring 2009 Web Magazine Cover

Ken -
I LOVE the Winter/Spring 2009 Web Magazine Cover!
You have outdone yourself this time! Excellent Job!

The article on Mr. Albert White was great.... I often wonder where and what our Community Leaders are doing, and to find that he is still recognized as a pioneer in the community was good news!

I am not certain if anyone recalls; but Mr. Albert, my father (Marcus Potts Sr.), James Willie Kirkpatrick, Willie (SANK) Culp and the late Charlie Kirkpatrick, Billy Davis, J.T. Miller, organized a Community Concerned Men's Club around the early 1970's (hope I did not leave anyone out, please correct if needed).

They wore "light green blazers" as their signature attire! Their mission was to address issues that pledged the Paradise and Pine Ridge Communities.

In addition, I believe the Men's Club spurred the inception of a Women's Community Group. Not certain of their details, however I am certain that my Aunt, Delores Potts and (possibly) her sister Gretchen McClenningham, were members and can share some information on the group.

This might make an interesting community story for a future ParadiseWeb Magazine edition!

Again, my highest regards to Mr. Albert White and to you Ken for another job well done!

Awesome Article!

I've heard that "Friends are relatives you make for yourself.". When Libby (Elizabeth Patterson White), one of my closest friends asked me to check out her daddy's picture on the web, I had no idea that I would see such an impressive article in an extraordinary magazine! Keep up the excellent work, Kenny!!!
